Polka Doodles: Sugar & Spice

Hello again. my friends! Woohoo! It's Friday at last, my friends and we're having a long weekend. Tuesday is Carnival / Mardi Gras / Fat Tuesday / Pancake Tuesday ....  holiday! . Most employers either close on Monday or allow employees to take the day off - affectionately known as "Ponte" - the Bridge because that Monday is the link that gives us a 4-day weekend. Can you not tell from this convoluted and laboured explanation this is a matter very close to my heart?! :-)

Here's another reason to send your heart aflutter - Polka Doodles Challenge. We kicked off a brand new theme last week - Sugar & Spice. These week we're bringing you some more inspiration and another 7 days to play along. Yay!

In keeping with the sweet and girly theme, I made a birthday card. We had Mama Bear's card on Monday, Papa Bear's card on Wednesday and today I bring a card for Baby Bear:

The paper is from Bonbon Belles Double CD. I added some pink liquid pearls
to frame the card.

The image is a rubber stamp called "Gracie" from Polka Doodles Fairy Butterfly
series. I coloured her with Graph It and Promarkers. I heat embossed the butterfly
from this set onto some vellum, fussy cut it, added some liquid pearls and placed
it behind the little girl.

The flower is from Dolly Daydream Girl Talk CD and I added a butterfly that
my nieces sent me a couple of years ago. I never throw away anything! LOL.
The greeting is also from the "Gracie", heat embossed in white.

So I had an extra flower and could not bear to chuck it. Guess where it ended up?!

You'll find this card at these challenges:

Jelly Park Challenges: Things With Wings
Sister Act Cards #46: AG Cards Only
Simon Says Stamp on Wednesday: AG with Pearls - liquid pearls
DL.Art Thankful Thursday #127: Image of a Girl / Lady
Seize The Birthday: AG Birthday

That's my card for this challenge. Now how about you show me yours! You have a week to prepare a "Sugar & Spice" concoction. And make sure you link it up at the Polka Doodles Challenge Blog by Noon GMT on 7 March. As always, there's a risk you might win some fabulous prizes!

Thanks for stopping by and don't forget to have fun!

Masculine Birthday

Happy Wednesday, my friends. I'm back with another birthday card and this time it's a manly one. Masculine cards are not easy for me. Men are such difficult creatures!

Patterned papers are from First Edition's New Leaf pad.

This images are from Chocolate Baroque's Seashore Scenes.  I stamped  the
lighthouse first and then made a mask to stamp the clouds in the background.
Same technique to stamp the grassy tufts in front and around the lighthouse,
using Memento Bamboo Leaves. To add colour to the clouds and sand I used
TH Distress Inks Faded Jeans and Antique Linen. I coloured the lighthouse
with Promarkers in various shades of greys. Finally to cut and layer I used
SB Oval and Scalloped Oval dies.

I popped the image up with some foam tape,  used some twine, made banner
and finished with 3 black bling... manly enough, I hope. The greeting is from
Chocolate Baroque's Birthday Words stamped with VersaFine Balck Onyx.

I'm taking the banner theme inside too. The sentiment is another from the
Chocolate Baroque Birthday Words set.

Here are some challenges for this card. How about you play along too?

Monday Best Wishes

Hello there, my crafty buds. It's the start of a brand new week and I am determined to make it a good one! You know, the right frame of mind, right attitude, etc etc, and so on and so forth. After all, there are a dozen reasons to be happy... although the weather isn't one of them!

I've been so busy making Christmas cards that I have totally overlooked birthday card. There was a grand total of NONE in my stash, but that's been fixed now. This week will be all about birthday cards. Here's the first:

I made a tall and skinny card measuring 8"x4". The papers
are from Basic Grey's Piccadilly. The side panel is a piece of
vellum embossed with the Swiss Dots folder.

Here's a close-up of the card. The butterflies are from Clearly Besotted's
Butterfly Wishes: the large one stamped with VersaMagic Sea Breeze and
the little ones with Memento London Fog. I added some Baby Blue Liquid
Pearls and iridescent bling. The greeting is from CB's Many Messages
stamped with VersaFine Black Onyx and SB dies for cutting & layering.

The sentiment is from CB's Make A Wish.

Taking my card to these challenges:

Mojo Monday #334: Sketch + Tall & Skinny Card
Clearly Besotted Challenge #8: Colour

Eureka Stamps #78: Add A Butterfly

That's my project for today. Thank you so much for stopping by. I'm off to make dinner... I hear the footsteps in the kitchen and the fridge opening and shutting. Oh dear! That usually means hubby is channelling Gordon Ramsey. ... Oh dear! Must run!

Have a lovely Monday!

Eclectic Ellapu: Sequins, Gems ... Sparkle!

Good day, fellow crafters! It's challenge time over at Eclectic Ellapu and the Purple Team is in charge this week. Our hostess this week is Chris the theme is "Sequins, Gems ... Sparkle". Just think of the possibilities!

I made a card for our friend who was is now home from an extended stay in hospital following a hiking accident. We are all in agreement that when the weather is bad the best place to be is at home, preferably under the covers! Hopefully this Get Well / Thinking of You card will lift her spirits.

No patterned papers and keeping it simple  This lovely border from
Chocolate Baroque's Indian Textiles is taking centre stage. I don't have
any sequins so I'm going to town with gems in red, green and gold.

Here's a close-up of the textile border. I applied 3 rows of TH Distress Ink:
Barn Door, Rusty Hinge and Peeled Paint. And then I stamped the border over
these row, this time with VersaFine Black Onyx. Then I adhered this panel to
the card base with some foam tape. To finish some sheer orange
ribbon tied in a bow.

The sentiment is from Chocolate Baroque's Words of Comfort and Cheer,
stamped with VersaFine Black Onyx.

On the inside I stamped another sentiment from Words of Comfort and Cheer
and a little border accent from Indian Textiles. I inked the edges with a little
TH Rusty Hinge.

I'm playing along with:

Word Art Wednesday #120: AG Encouraging or Uplifting

52 {C}CT February Stash Challenge

Happy Saturday, my friends!!! Excited about the weekend? I sure am. And here's another reason to do the happy dance .... a new challenge at 52{Christmas} Card Throwdown! Get your shades on my friend because this week, our February hostess was us to play with Metallic Papers. So, go through your stash and dig out those shinny papers and make something festive. And if, like me, you've always harboured a hankering desire to dish out a bright, brassy yet tastefully gaudy Christmas card, here's your excuse. What'ya think of my howlingly flashy number? Calling it my James Brown Poinsettia ... and I feel good!

I used SB Poinsettia dies to cut and emboss the big bloom. So as not to loose focus
the card sketch is simple with just one broad horizontal plaid panel and some sheer
gold ribbon. The greeting is from Clearly Besotted's Pretty Poinsettia, stamped with
VersaFine Black Onyx, with a couple of gold bling on either side.

Ok, you can take off your shades now. Guess I'm still an ol' fashioned gal at heart
by sticking to traditional Christmas colours. There's a gold brad in the middle of
the Poinsettia.

Another sentiment from the Pretty Poinsettia set, stamped in VersaFine Black Onyx.

Taking my card to these challenges:

Winter Wonderland Challenge: The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year
ABC Christmas Challenge: D for Die-cuts - SB dies for the Poinsettia

And here's the most important rule: Have Fun!

Hoppy Mojo Friday!

It's Friday and I'm only just posting my MojoMonday card. Too late? Hope not!
It has been a long hectic week of work and haven't crafted all week. So, I pushed myself into my craft room, had a few sterns words with myself and made a card. Aided by some hot chocolate, I made my first Easter card for the year.

I'm using up scraps again... so I can't be sure about the papers I used.
But I am sure about these cute Hoppy Easter stamps by Clearly Besotted.

I stamped the eggs with VersaColor Cardinal and for the bunny I used Memento London Fog
and VersaMagic Sea Breeze for his ears, paw-pads and chest.

I made a few extra eggs and didn't want to waste them.
If they weren't made of paper I probably would have eaten them!

Hopping my card over to these challenges:

Mojo Monday #333: Sketch
Clearly Besotted #8: Colour Challenge
Make It Monday #179: AG
Cutie Pie Challenge #63: Spots & Dots
Crafty Girls Challenge #12: AG

Almost lunch time now and I can hear my tummy growl. All this talk about chocolate eggs may have something to do with it! Thank you so much for stopping and I'll see you real soon. Easter today, Christmas tomorrow <hint>... I think I'll go celebrate with some (more) chocs. Have a fabby Friday, my friends!

Tuesday Throwdown #183: Winged Fairy Tales

Here we are again, my friends. It's time for another Tuesday Throwdown challenge and our theme this week is "Winged Fairy Tales". All kinds of winged fairy-tale and fantasy characters are welcome for this linky party.... there's no need to limit yourself to just fairies.

Our generous sponsor this week is MelJen's Designs Digital Studio and the DT received a few darling images to play with this week. Pop by their on-line store and you'll soon find yourself squealing at the cuteness on display.  I'm using this lovely Swan Princess for my winged fairy tale offering:

I'm using up my scraps here with  an assortment of bits and pieces for a
patchwork blanket look... the kind you'll find in a child's crib. I'm keeping this
card sweet and simple with just some sheer ribbon for embellishment.

Very very light strokes with my Promarkers for a touch of colour on the
Swan PrincessI also added little dots of baby blue Liquid Pearls for a magical
fairy tale look. Did it work? Are you convinced? I hope the 18month old
recipient is pleased with my effort.  :-)

On the inside, I stamped little hearts and flowers in Pink and Blue VersaMagic
chalk ink.

This elegant Swan Princess is joining these chalsenges:

I have been falling behind on my visiting. I do apologise.... bear with me, I'm making the rounds... slowly but surely. Thanks for stopping by, my friends and I wish y'all a terrific Tuesday!

Christmas Card Club #4: White or Snowflakes ... or both

The weeks are rolling by and we are getting closer to Christmas! Only a little over 10 months. Ok, maybe it's too soon to panic but I'm forging ahead with my Christmas stash. This fortnight, our super talented Hazel of Crafty Hazelnut has picked an apt theme: White-on-White or Snowflake. I looked out the window for inspiration and decided to do both!

Here's my wintery snowy white card:

All white and no patterned papers. Just snowflakes... as much as I could cram
onto the card front. I used SB's Create-a-Flake Five.

Here's a close-up. The greeting is from WMS Compliments of the Season stamped
with VersaColor Silver. I also embossed the background with the Swiss Dots folder,
lightly sponged the flakes and added a few iridescent bling. Final touch: sheer white
ribbon.

Here's a full frontal.

On the inside I stamped another greeting from WMS Compliments of the Season
and a few teeny snowflakes... all in VersaColor Silver.

52 {C}CT February Theme Challenge

Hello again, my friends, and welcome to another 52 {Christmas} Card Throwdown challenge. It's the third one in February and that means it's time for a Theme challenge. Our challenge hostess Jacqueline has picked a great one for you - Christmas Landscape. The typical scene would involve snowy mountains, fir trees, falling snow, reindeers, sleighs, etc. .... perfect if you live in the Northern Hemisphere. But what about our friends in the Argentina, South Africa, Australia and NZ? What is your Christmas landscape like? Because we're an equal opportunities challenge, here's your chance to show (off?!) the beauty of Christmas in your world.

Over here, the days are very short, very cold and very dark.... and very very beautiful; a lot like this:

The papers are from Papermania's Signature collection.  I've kept this
card simple, adding only some ice blue sheer ribbon. The greeting is
from WMS Say It Loud Winter, stamped with Memento Paris Dusk.

And here is the focal image from Chocolate Baroque's Christmas Cheer
set, stamped with Versafine Black Onyx and very lightly coloured with
Caran D'Ache Supracolor pencils. There's one teeny tiny light blue bling
on the star... can you spot it?

Here's the inside. The sentiment is from WMS Say It Loud Winter,
stamped with Memento Paris Dusk and the snowflakes are from
WMS Compliments of the Season stamped with VersaColor Silver.

I'm taking my card to these challenges:

Christmas Card Challenge #11: Silver & Blue

You Are Loved

Hello, my friends.  I'm playing with some new stamps...well, new for me. STAMPlorations. Have you heard of this stamp company? No? You really should head on over to their on-line shop and check out these high quality deep etched rubber stamps. Last December I won set from them called It's All About YOU,  typed and boxed sentiments to mix and match any which way.

There's also a Challenge Blog with 3 challenges a month: a monthly theme and two fortnightly sketches. I'm playing both the challenges with this card I made for my sister. Yesterday she did something so special for me... I just had to make her a card to tell her that she is awesome. It's her second card this week... and yes, she really is that awesome!

I'm doing the tango with CAS again. No patterned papers. The text is from STAMPLORATIONS
It's All About YOU, stamped with Memento London Fog and VersaColor Scarlet. I added a few
random red bling along the polka dot border from Clearly Besotted's Background Builder,
stamped with VersaColor Scarlet.

Plenty of foam tape for lift: on the border and the entire front panel.

Here's a close-up of the stitching. My sister loves paisley..., and I thought
why not pink paisley!

On the inside, more boxed texts from the same set. I really really
like these stamps. Can' understand why I took so long to get them inky!

Taking my card to these challenges:

STAMPlorations February Challenge: Stamps & Stitches
STAMPlorations Sketch #5
Colour Throwdown #279
Make It Monday #178: AG
Word Art Wednesday #119: AG Uplifting
Creative Moments #36: AG / Love
Crafting By Design #12: Anything For Love

That's all from me today and thanks for stopping by.  The weather has been treacherous lately so stay safe, my friends. Last night, the big bad wind was trying to huff and puff and blow our house down. Luckily it's made of bricks... but that's no guarantee these days, is it?! Take care, y'all!
