Happy Halloween!

It's finally here - the grand gala of ghosts and ghouls. Of course, I'm way to old to play dress-up and / or fleece candy off the neighbours. A decent dinner with like-minded ladies is right up my spooky alley. Its about time we claimed our place on the holiday calendar. This dinner is a tribute to the time-honoured Witches:  Mothers-in-law and Step-mothers!

I've made some party favours for the sister-witches in 2 design variations. These cute little gable boxes are filled with ghost shaped meringues. This year the little ghouls didn't stand tall and proud. The humidity in my kitchen ( we had torrential showers recently) was a nightmare to deal with. On the upside, the meringues turned out crisp on the outside and soft & gooey on the inside. (Yes - I did some QC while packing!).

As soon as I post this, I'll be off on my broom to partake in some diabolically delicious food and a whole load of cackling good fun! Happy Halloween, everybody!
2 designs choices for my sister-witches

A Card for Xiara

For my Mojo card this week, I was determined to stay away from the spooky and glitzy. A "just because" card would do nicely, thank you very much.

This card is dedicated to my darling kitty "Xiara". Ok, so I'm turning into one of those weird ol' ladies who lives in a shoe surrounded by feline fur-balls, but I just couldn't help it. She is so darn cute and was just sitting there on my cutting mat waiting to be included...at least that's how I chose to see it!

Point to note: this card features an elegant kitty, just as Xiara must have been many many rains ago (very vague flashbacks...) Now at 11, this grand ol' dame has accumulated considerable cuteness in her girth. I picked pink and went for a daisy embossed background because I suspect these to be her favourite things (see kitty pix at end of post). The patterned papers are from HOTP's "Bohemian" pack.

Halloween Easel

Halloween is just a week away...I have got to get my cards out quick! Here's what my nieces and nephews will be getting this year: a Halloween easel card. It's a fun little card measuring 4-1/4" square and the focal point is Little Gracie on her broom. The image is slightly wonky so she looks like she's about to land. Her poor cat looks terrified! Ooops!

I hand stitched around the stamped image, heat embossed the greetings and did little else to the card .. for Little Gracie's sake because I really wanted her to stand out. However, some Crystal Stickles managed to sneak in, ever so discreetly! I'm pleased with the way this card turned out...

Ye Olde Cake Shoppe

I've always been fascinated by the "awning card". So, after some serious on-line research and tips from Dawn Olchefske, I set about making my own cake shoppe on a 4-1/4" x 5-1/2" tent card. It was no where near as daunting as I thought it would be.

I had no one in mind for this card. Since I just wanted to have a go at making one I grabbed the last stamp used: "Thank You". So here's something from me to me...with gratitude! ;-p

This card has potential and would work for any occasion. How about an apothecary for Halloween or bakery with gingerbread men for Christmas. Perhaps a flower shop for Mother's Day or a tool shed for Father's Day. The possibilities are endless. I think I'm going to have a go at the variations...that would be fun.

Those lil' cakes look like their sitting on the counter. How cool is that!

Little cupcakes all in a row.

Close-up - yummy yummy!

No one has sent me an entire cake shop to say thank you... but I live in hope!

That's all from me today. Thanks for dropping in and I hope to see you around soon!

Also linking this up with MIM #100. Pop on over there for some stunning creations for its centenarian post.

Beijinhos!

Birthday Bear

A friend asked me to make a card for her mother-in-law. One of the cards from the "Set of Minis" that I made last month caught her eye. This time 'round I went for a larger 5"x5" card, and although I stuck to the original theme, I made some minor changes...for the better, I hope. I dressed up the die-cuts with some stitching and chose a larger image to stamp, which was a lot more fun to colour in with my aquarelle pencils. Of course, I could not resist throwing in some gemstones!

Thank you swirls

Recently, I was given some truly scrumptious ginger preserve by a sweet little girl. Clearly this 2-year old has a delectable palate! ;-)  Back to the preserve...in a word: yummy! It's not too sweet and just enough warmth to kick start these cool autumn mornings. So, in keeping with her sophisticated taste-buds, I made a "grown-up" card for little Miss Mónica.  This card measures 4-1/4" x 5-1/2". The dry embossed blue panel is the main feature. I heat embossed the greeting and did some hand-stitching to frame the card. Finally, some soft pink ribbon and a few blue and pink sparkly bits brought this card together.

Yuletide bling!

MojoMonday is here again and this week's sketch looks like this:

I tried so hard not to make another holiday card, so you can imagine my surprise when the card ended up looking suspiciously like one. It's a 4-1/4"x5-1/2" tent card. I applied a fair bit of shimmer and shine and also plugged in my heat tool for some more shimmery embossing action. As if that weren't enough, I wrapped up this card with some bright red ribbon to further promote the festive feel. Threw in a vintage ornament, lay on some more shiny stuff... and now it really looks like Christmas!

A little thank you

Here is a quick and easy Thank You card that I put together in no time at all. It measures 4-1/4" x 5-1/2". I used the "Swiss Dots" embossing folder for texture and some left over patterned paper by My Mind's Eye. I'm not entirely sure about this card; I like the colours and the general look, but there's something about it ....  Any who, I need to get this card in the mail pronto so I'll meditate on that later!

Felt flower

While clearing out a drawer, I found a wad of felt. Not sure when or why I bought that much felt, but I thought it was time to bring it back into my craft room. Only one thing sprang to mind: felt flowers. So, I made this 5-1/2" x 4-1/4" card for my "forever young" cousin and forced my little felt creation to play a supporting role. And since I hadn't used my heat tool in a while, I "felt" the card could do with some heat-embossing action. Yep, you guessed it: I made this card up as I went along!

Victorian Christmas

At least that was the plan. For this week's Mojo creation I skipped ahead to Christmas and went for a muted version of the traditional colours. No gold here, just some hand-stitching in copper for a hint of glitz. The papers are from HOTP's Forever Christmas CD Kit. Of course, a handmade felt poinsettia took centre stage. I'm pleased with the end result... even if it's not strictly Victorian.
